As Sir Alex announced the end to his glittering managerial career, we set out to create our own farewell tribute. We built a custom display case, then hours after his final game listed Fergie’s Last Gum on eBay.

100+ bids later the highest bid stood at a monumental £150,800, until eBay stepped in and suspended the account. Before we knew it global reports from the likes of Metro, ESPN, Yahoo and FOXSports had been fooled, claiming the gum had sold for just shy of £400,000. It didn’t.
